Summer 2009
Our Summer Guest Housing Program will begin on
June 16, 2009 and end on August 22, 2009.
Intent of Program
The Summer Guest Housing Program is
intended for individuals who are not Caltech students, but will be
participating in specific Caltech Student-Faculty Programs or attending
a specific conference/event sponsored by the Institute or JPL.
Caltech undergraduate students
seeking summer housing should participate in their house summer picks or
the unaffiliated summer lottery.
Program Information
Due to an increased number of
Institute sponsored conferences and events, housing for individuals
outside of these programs will be extremely limited, on a first come,
first served basis and is not guaranteed. Priority will be given to
individuals in specific sponsored programs, conferences and events.
Housing for Summer 2009 will be
available from June 16, 2009 to August 22, 2009. Guests will not be
allowed to check in until after 12:00 p.m.-noon on June 16, 2009 or 9:00 a.m.
for any business day after June 16th. If you need housing outside of
these dates, please make the necessary alternative arrangements, as
space will not be available.
Application Information
Students participating in any of the
Student-Faculty Programs (i.e. SURF, MURF, USRP, Amgen and Cambridge)
will be receiving a link to the appropriate on-line application via
email from the Student-Faculty Programs Office. If you are one of these
participants, please fill out the link provided by your program by the
May 1, 2009 deadline. DO NOT use the link below as
it is for other independent summer research students.
All other students interested in
summer guest housing may click on the link below to submit an
application. Again, please keep in mind that housing will be extremely
limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
2009 Summer
Housing Application Form
The deadline to submit a summer guest housing
application is 5:00 p.m. on May 1, 2009.
UID Requirements
Our database system is tightly integrated with Oracle
(Caltech’s database management system). For security/emergency purposes,
ALL visitors (even short-term) must have a UID number before they can be
confirmed for housing. If you will be considered part of a
Student-Faculty Programs group, you will be automatically issued a
UID number. The SURF Office should provide you with the link to the
appropriate housing application. If you will NOT be part of a
Student-Faculty Programs group, please be sure to contact the
professor you are visiting and have them submit the appropriate
paperwork to Human Resources on your behalf. In most cases, the
professor will have to submit a “Guest Data Sheet” to Human Resources in
order for you to be issued a UID number. Our office will not be able
to provide accommodations to those that have not been issued a UID
number.
Please note: The following is applicable
to all summer guests (including Student-Faculty Program participants).
Individuals arriving after business
hours without a confirmed housing application/assignment will be subject
to a one-time, non-refundable fee of $150.00 if they wish to
check in during that time (subject to availability).
Individuals arriving during
business hours will not be charged that fee for making last minute
housing arrangements (subject to availability).
