Housing Check In Information
This is confirmation that a room is reserved for you in Caltech Housing for the 2024-2025 contract period. Your room will be available for check-in on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, unless you applied for a later date. If this date changes, we must be notified immediately via email.
ARRIVAL DATES AND CHECK IN TIMES –
- Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
- Closed for Check In on Saturday and Sunday
- Closing @ 2:00pm on Friday, Friday, August 30, 2024
- Closed on Monday, September 2, 2024
- Closed on Institute Holidays
CHECK-IN PROCEDURES –
- WHERE- The Housing Office Front Door- 414 S. Holliston Ave 1st floor next to green umbrellas. You will need to knock on the door.
- TIME- 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (NO LATE CHECK INS)
- CHECK IN PROCESS- Only takes about 5 minutes, DO NOT LET YOUR RIDE GO, ask them to wait. This is not your final stop, you will be living several blocks away.
- Photo ID Required
During check-in, you will receive your room and mailbox keys and detailed information about Caltech housing policies and services. Pets are not allowed. The Catalina Apartments are three-story buildings and have no elevators. 180-188 Catalina /229 Wilson are all two-story buildings and have no elevators.
All room and apartment assignments are made a few days before your arrival. For this reason, you are strongly advised to wait until you move in before you ship items. Caltech is not responsible for any costs incurred by you due to incorrect address information given out.
Rental charges will be billed to your student account. For information about your student account, visit the Bursar's website.
CATALINA APARTMENT
All utilities except private telephone and cable service are arranged by Caltech and will be in service when you check-in. The Catalina apartments have wifi and are wired to campus Ethernet, each resident will be charged $20/month for this service to their student account. Charges for gas and electricity usage will also be billed every month to your student account. Residents may arrange for private telephone and/or cable service directly with the local companies or can make arrangements with their apartment-mates to share services. Arrangements for these services can be made only after you have taken occupancy of your room. Complete information about installing a telephone and/or cable is available at check-in.
180-188 CATALINA/229 WILSON

Arrangements for these services can be made only after you have taken occupancy of your apartment. Complete information about installing a telephone and/or cable is available at check-in.
Prepay all parcel shipments. Caltech does not accept collect shipments or have storage space available for your personal items. Items shipped through United Parcel Service or similar carriers will be received by Caltech Central Receiving.
Address parcels to: (Yourself), c/o Caltech Central Receiving, 391 S Holliston Ave Pasadena, CA 91106.
Packages should not arrive on-campus more than one week before your arrival. Before sending the package and upon your arrival at Caltech, contact the Caltech Receiving Dock, 391 S. Holliston (626) 395-4893. If you are shipping items for delivery after your arrival, you can send them directly to your apartment address. You must be present in your apartment at the time of delivery to receive any parcels addressed to your specific apartment address.
Resident mail is considered off-campus and is delivered by the US Postal Service, Monday - Saturday, to a locked mailbox assigned to each apartment. Address mail to: (Yourself), (Your apartment address), Pasadena, CA 91106. Do not use Caltech's unique zip code, 91125.
To prevent the loss or return of your mail, do not arrange for mail to be delivered before your arrival. If you must have an address to forward your mail before you arrive at Caltech you may want to check with the graduate coordinator in your academic option for your on-campus departmental mail code.
Temporary daytime parking is available near the Catalina Complex on S Catalina Ave. Overnight parking is not permitted along Catalina Ave. or on most Pasadena city streets. Students with cars will need to purchase a Caltech parking permit from Parking and Commuter Services in order to park in any parking lot on-campus. If you would like to cancel your housing application, notice must be submitted with the Cancellation Form by June 9, 2024. Applicants who cancel their reservation between the dates of June 10, 2024 to August 31, 2024 will be charged a $200.00 late cancellation fee. On or after September 1, 2024, if you terminate your contract with fifteen (15) days written notice to Housing Office without cause or for any cause other than a permissible cause as set forth in the grad contract, a fee of $350.00 will be charged to your student account.
All date changes must be received via email no later than 14 days prior to scheduled arrival/check-in. Changes made within 14 days of scheduled arrival will incur a $50.00 fee. Changes made on day of arrival or after will incur a $100.00 fee, plus a prorated housing charge.
Catalina Complex residents must supply their own bed sheets, blankets, pillows, towels and kitchen utensils. The four-bedroom apartments are furnished with twin extra-long beds, 36" wide. The two-bedroom apartments are furnished with full-size double beds, 54" wide. The one-bedroom apartments are furnished with one full-size double bed, 54" wide. Apartments at 180-188 Catalina and 229 Wilson are unfurnished except for refrigerator and stove in the kitchen.

Grocery stores, banks, shops and restaurants are all located within a few short blocks of campus. Pasadena also offers bus service with frequent stops near the campus going to the downtown shopping district.
