All undergraduate rooms are furnished with a desk, desk chair, drawers, closet space, and a bed (with a twin XL mattress) for each resident. Every building on campus requires Caltech ID card access. Additional information on amenities within each building are listed below.
Overview
The Bechtel Residence is Caltech's newest residence hall with 211 bed spaces that offers individual rooms and suites, a beautiful outdoor courtyard, and a dining hall. Each bedroom is just under 100 square feet.
All bedrooms are equipped with:

- Kitchens
- Laundry rooms
- Study rooms
Types of Rooms
Individual Singles: There are fifteen individual singles throughout Bechtel (1 on the first floor, 6 on the second floor, and 8 on the third floor). Each room has a bed, desk, chair, a closet, two dressers, and a private bathroom. The average size of the room is 135 sq. ft. (not including the bathroom).
4-Bedroom Suite: There are five 4-Bedroom Suites throughout Bechtel (1 on the first floor, 2 on the second floor, and 2 on the third floor). The suite has four private bedrooms, each with a bed, desk, chair, a closet, and two dressers. The suite includes a lounge and study area with a sofa, table, chairs, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. The suite also includes private shower/bathroom facilities and a storage closet. The average size of the lounge/study area is 460 sq. ft.
6-Bedroom Suites: There are four 6-Bedroom Suites throughout Bechtel (1 on the first floor, 2 on the second floor, and 1 on the third floor). The suite has six private bedrooms, each with a bed, desk, chair, a closet and two dressers. The suite includes a lounge and study area with a sofa, table, chairs, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. The suite also includes private shower/bathroom facilities and a storage closet. The average size of the lounge/study area is 570 sq. ft.
8-Bedroom Suites: There are sixteen 8-Bedroom Suites throughout Bechtel (6 on the first floor, 6 on the second floor, and 4 on the third floor). The suite has eight private bedrooms, each with a bed, desk, chair, a closet, and two dressers. The suite includes a lounge and study area with a sofa, table, chairs, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. The suite also includes private shower/bathroom facilities and a storage closet. The average size of the lounge/study area is 700 sq. ft.
12-Bedroom Suites: There are two 12-Bedroom Suites in Bechtel (1 on the second floor and 1 on the third floor). The suite has twelve private bedrooms, each with a bed, desk, chair, a closet, and two dressers. The suite includes a lounge and study area with a sofa, table, chairs, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. The suite also includes private shower/bathroom facilities and a storage closet. The average size of the lounge/study area is 860 sq. ft.
Marks/Braun House
- A mix of single and double rooms, based on demand for on campus housing

Avery is the newest House, built in 1996. The housing options available are single and double rooms, but incoming first years live in doubles with bed/desk combinations (bed on top, desk below). There is a dining hall, lounges, kitchens and other common spaces throughout the building. There are some gendered and some gender-neutral bathrooms in Avery.

The North Houses were built in 1960 to accommodate the growing student population. The housing options available are double capacity bedrooms, primarily with lofted beds accessible by ladders. There are dining halls, lounges, kitchens and other house-specific common spaces throughout the buildings. There are some gendered and some gender-neutral bathrooms in the North Houses.

The South Houses are the oldest Houses on campus. The housing options available are single, double, and triple capacity bedrooms, with the majority of rooms being singles. There are dining halls, lounges, kitchens and other house-specific common spaces throughout the buildings. All bathrooms in the South Houses are gender neutral.
