SFP Housing Info - JPL Programs
Caltech summer housing is available to participants of the SURF@JPL, JPL SIP, STAR, ICONS, and Space Grant programs. The use of Caltech housing is not required; however, if you are interested in reserving a room on campus during the summer period, please find additional information and the application form below. Applications are due by May 15, 2024.
Please note: Contracts will be sent for electronic signature in May. You do not need to complete the contract linked below - it is there for you to view in advance of signing.
There are multiple styles of housing available to SFP participants. Participants will be able to indicate a preference between single occupancy rooms, double occupancy rooms, and single occupancy rooms within suites. The suites house 4, 6, or 8 residents.
The housing rate will be $1,347.00/month or $45.00/calendar day. Each participant will be responsible for covering the cost of the meal plan ($565.00).
Payment instructions and deadlines will be provided upon arrival. Guests are not expected to make a payment in advance of their arrival.
Students participating in the SURF@JPL, JPL SIP, STAR, ICONS, and Space Grant programs are eligible for campus housing from Monday, June 17th, 2024 through Saturday, August 24th, 2024. Housing outside of those dates is not available. There is a one-month minimum stay required for all visiting students.
Students arriving after Tuesday June 18th, must indicate their alternate arrival date on their application. Check ins can only occur Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. After hours, weekend, and holiday check ins will not be accommodated.
Single & Double Occupancy Rooms:
Each occupant will have a closet, chair, drawers, and EITHER a bed/desk combo (with a bed on top and desk underneath) OR a desk and lofted bed. The mattresses are twin XL, and you are responsible for supplying your own linens (towels, sheets, blankets, mattress pad, pillow, etc.). Please bring your own or you can purchase them at a local retailer when you arrive. Our office will NOT have linens available for purchase.
Each room will have a sink and central heating/air.
Each hallway or neighboring hallway will have:
- Shared bathrooms and showers. Some are gendered, some are co-ed. All shower facilities have locking doors on individual stalls.
- Shared kitchen facilities. Kitchens include a communal refrigerator, microwave and stove. Items (food, cookware, utensils etc.) stored in these locations are personal belongings. If you wish to cook, you should bring your own supplies or purchase them at a local retailer upon your arrival.
- Shared lounge/recreational spaces. Amenities vary between lounges, but include board games, ping pong, pool table, TVs, etc.
Suite-Style Rooms:

- Shared bathroom and shower facilities within the suite.
- Shared common area furniture within the suite, including: couch, arm chairs, coffee table, dining table, chairs, refrigerator, microwave, and closet space.

Internet is available through an Ethernet port in each room (bring your own cord) and secured WiFi network (requires "Access" login credentials). A limited guest WiFi network is also available throughout campus.
The mandatory meal plan is a one-time fee of $565.00. SFP summer residents will receive an identification card upon check-in. This card will have a declining balance of $565.00 that can be used to purchase meals (at the resident's discretion) at all Caltech Dining facilities on campus. Additional funds may be added later or residents may use their personal credit/debit cards if necessary.
Students with specific housing accommodation needs will need to register any medical conditions with Caltech Accessibility Services for Students (CASS).
Permit parking is available on campus for summer students. A parking permit is required and will cost $140 for 10 weeks. The Parking Office also offers a $20 metro TAP card. You can purchase a summer parking permit or TAP card at the Parking Office on the second floor of 515 S. Wilson Ave. The entrance to the Parking Office is at the back of the house. You must show your Caltech ID.
You will receive your account statement and payment instructions after checking in.
Once your assignment is processed, you will receive a housing contract for electronic signature by the end of May. Arrival and check in information will be emailed to you prior to your move in. Please note that after hours arrivals are not permitted.
